Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and inspire a team of data engineers to design, develop, and operate highly performant data pipelines for Bell.  
  • Foster a collaborative and end-to-end performance driven team culture by promoting Agile practices while instilling DevOps processes across the team.
  • Drive the design, development, and optimization of data pipelines for reliability, scalability, cost efficiency, and end-to-end performance assurance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align team initiatives with business objectives.
  • Facilitate effective communication, decision-making, and incident resolution across the team.
  • Provide multi-cloud technical expertise across on-premise (Bell) and Google Cloud Platform (GCP) environments.
  • Lead the continuous improvement of DevOps practices, ensuring seamless integration of development and operations efforts across the team.
  • Contribute to the development of data systems disaster recovery plans and conduct regular compliance validation drills.
  • Monitor and track project progress, identify risks, and implement mitigation strategies to ensure successful delivery.
  • Utilize Confluence and Jira to manage and track projects, ensuring transparency and visibility into the development process.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Software Engineering, or related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • 5+ years’ experience leading data engineering and operations teams in a DevOps environment.
  • Strong leadership skills with a passion for developing high performance teams. 5+ years
  • Expertise in both on-premises (e.g. Hadoop, Kubernetes, Kafka, etc.) and cloud-based data technologies, with a focus on Google Cloud Platform.
  • Strong proficiency in Scala, Spark, Kafka, SQL/NoSQL, Shell scripting, Python, etc. ideally 5+ years’ experience (3 years would be entertained)
  • Hands-on experience building data pipelines in Java and Python, ideally 5+ years’ experience (3 years would be entertained)
  • Hands-on experience in data pipeline performance management, with a focus on end-to-end reliability, resource efficiency, and observability. ideally 5+ years experience (3 years would be entertained)

 

Nice to have:

  • Knowledge of Agile Scrum, DevOps, and Lean Management practices.
  • Stay current with industry trends and best practices in DevOps.
  • Strong proficiency project management tools such Confluence and Jira.
  • Strong facilitation and conflict resolution skills, with the ability to build consensus and influence decision-making.
  • Proven experience in software architecture and design, driving the technical direction of projects.
  • Fluent in English, both verbal and written, with excellent communication skills.

  • Cloud data or architecture certifications in GCP, AWS, or Azure
